6 Principles of Marketing Psychology that can boom your Marketing Strategy
Nowadays
Marketers have a surplus number of marketing tools but then also most of the
marketer fails to meet their market goals. This is because most marketers rely
on marketing tools and give less importance to Marketing Psychology (Consumer Behavior).
Marketing
Psychology plays an important role in differentiating the consumer needs and
providing them the best possible communication by the product side. Like all
the fingers are not the same, similarly, all the consumers don’t have the same behavior.
Principle 1- The Social Proof:-
Social proof
generally means making a decision based on the decisions of others. So how will
this be relevant in the field of marketing?
Most of the time,
consumers love to buy the product from the same company by which other
consumers are also buying happily. Some of the brands create a sense of
authority among the audience with the help of user-generated content and
testimonials. Referrals also play an important part in spreading the voice of
your brand among the relevant consumers and will garner more people to consider
your brand. There are some best companies for digital marketing which advertise
based upon the user generated content.
Principle 2- The Scarcity:-
As the word
justifies, scarcity means “Rare Items”. Rare Items are always valuable as they
are always present in a limited quantity. People always place a higher bet
whenever the product is in the category of rare items. Sometimes they end up
paying more for the particular product as they are in the stage of FOMO [Fear
of missing out]
To create a sense
of Scarcity, always try to run limited-time offers on certain sets of products.
Use some catchy lines in your campaign like “3 days left”, “only 3 items left
in the stock”.
Principle 3- The Norm of Reciprocity:-
Whenever someone
offers you something, you also have to offer something to that person as
gratitude. So this is what we call “The Norm of Reciprocity”. In the field of
marketing, we use this term by offering freebies to the consumer, and then in
return, the consumer also feels a sense of gratitude and buys something from
the company.
We can use
various tactics to acquire consumers using freebies. Like offering eBooks, a
7-day trial period on your products, newsletters, and many more.
Principle 4- The Loss Aversion:-
This principle refers to people’s preference for avoiding a loss over
gaining an equal amount. To apply this principle in your marketing strategy,
try to use losses as the genesis of your campaign. For Eg:- if a consumer is
using a product under a free trial period scheme, always try to tell them about
the losses they are going to suffer if they don’t convert this free trial
period scheme into a monthly or quarterly subscription.
Principle 5- The
Anchoring Bias:-
According to this principle, a consumer will always make a decision
based on the first information they are going to receive about the product.
We can use this psychological principle to anchor our consumers by
displaying them the original price of the product along with the discounted
price during sales. Make the original price of the product the anchor for the
consumer and then provide a flat deal to the consumer so that the chances of
conversion arise. If you are providing social media marketing services to any
client, always keep this principle in your mind.
Principle 6- The decoy
effect:-
In this principle, while the consumer is comparing two products, the
company will introduce a third product which will be less fascinating with
other products in competition. And this third option will be considered as the
decoy option.
In the field of marketing, we can use this principle to create a set of
3 options where one option will be acting as the decoy option. This will create
a sense of push to the consumer to buy a specific product irrespective of the
price of the product. Many advertising agency perform this principle to garner
more results.
